Skincare after 45: Cosmetics, Dermo-Cosmetics, or Dermatological Treatments? Let’s unravel it all!

Age is just a number, and beautiful skin has no age limit. As we journey through our mid-forties and beyond, we can harness the power of science and nature to maintain a radiant complexion. Let's uncover the secrets to youthful-looking skin, from everyday skincare to advanced treatments. This is where our skincare choices become important.

  • Dermatological Products: These are medical-grade products prescribed by dermatologists to treat specific skin conditions such as eczema, or rosacea. They primarily target the deeper layers of the skin (dermis and hypodermis) and are not suitable for addressing general signs of aging in healthy skin. However, if you are experiencing severe skin conditions that worsen during menopause (hyperpigmentation, precancerous lesions), a dermatologist can prescribe topical medications or oral treatments to manage these issues.

  • Cosmetics: These are designed for basic beauty enhancement and hygiene. They work on the surface layer (epidermis) and offer benefits such as hydration, cleansing, and makeup application. While some cosmetics claim to have anti-aging properties, their effects are often temporary and lack the scientific backing of dermo-cosmetics.

  • Dermo-Cosmetics: Given the significant changes our skin experiences after 45, this category is truly exceptional! It combines the best of both worlds by addressing the needs of aging skin while prioritizing its health. These products contain active ingredients such as moisturizers, soothing agents, and cell-renewal boosters. They are formulated with scientifically proven components to address specific concerns like wrinkles and dryness, and to stimulate elastin production. They penetrate deeper than regular cosmetics and provide longer-lasting results.

As I mentioned earlier, my routines rely entirely on botanical, natural solutions. Fortunately, several plant-derived ingredients can be found in dermo-cosmetics, such as hyaluronic acid, ceramides, green tea extract, and more.

By choosing dermo-cosmetic products with plant-based ingredients, you can harness nature's power to nourish, repair, and rejuvenate your skin!
